Top Pet Resolutions for 2021

Posted 28th Dec 2020

It doesn’t feel overly fun to try and make resolutions this year when there’s still an amount of uncertainty about what movements we’re going to be able to make. We’ve tried to make it that bit easier for pet lovers if you still want to make some commitments to 2021. Our pets have definitely been our saviours this year and helped to make things a little easier, so our 5 resolutions are here to make their and our lives better.

1. Make the Vet Appointment

It can often pass us by that our pets need an annual check-up. It’s always seen as fortuitous if we don’t have to visit the vets, but for those who have raised a puppy, we know it’s on the list of places we must make them feel comfortable for if we ever have to take them. This resolution is just to make sure we book in the appointment but this is also a great time just to go through last years documents and ensure everything is up to date. Don’t forget to check their microchipping too!

When you’re sat down checking documentation, it’s worth putting something together about your pets daily feeding, medication and exercising needs. Consider it the ‘just in case’ card. If you suddenly had to leave your pet and someone who didn’t know them had to look after them, what would they need to know?

You could add this to your resolution list to be updated every 3 - 6 months.

2. Exercise

This is always on 90% of New Year’s Resolution lists, but there are so many more interesting ways to make this fun!

Dependent on the age and needs of your dog, you could commit to certain times of the day or specific distances to walk. For both dogs and other animals, it could be 20 minutes a day of playing a game just to get them and you moving.

This is a great one for this year, not only great for our and their bodies, but also great for our mental health. The outside is a great place to help relieve stress!

3. The Pet Wash

We often bypass the collar and toy washes until it’s desperate - mainly because it slips our mind. A great New Years Resolution is scheduling certain times throughout the year to get these done. Bedding is recommended to be done every week or two!

4. Play Dates

We’re all learning the new virtual way of seeing people but some pets are definitely missing their furry, nose to nose friends. Dependant on restrictions, some socially distanced play dates could be put in place. Open areas and tennis balls are going to be a hit!

5. Trying Something New

Another popular resolution is to try something new. We’ve compiled the top 5 for you to choose from!

1.    Learn a new trick together

2.    Volunteer for a rescue shelter (restriction dependant)

3.    Go walking in a new location every month

4.    Fundraise for your local shelter

5.    Learn to make your own toys

We hope there’s something on our list that has inspired a positive outlook for the year ahead. Let us know what you and your pet are going to commit to for 2021!
