Keeping pets settled and happy during Halloween

Halloween is a time of year that can be super fun but sometimes a little scary for our pets. The costumes and continuous visitors to the door can be distressing if the right things aren’t put in place to help everyone to remain calm, content and happy. In this article, we give some suggestions that can easily be put in place to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as we all want for our pets, so we can still bring our little bit of joy to the children who knock on our door!

Cats & Dogs

Update your pet’s microchip!

Whether you haven’t checked it recently, you’ve moved, your mobile number has changed or any other details you can think of you might have changed, checking that your pet’s microchip is up to date is so important. If anything goes wrong and your pet gets spooked, you want to ensure that they’re coming back to you. Hopefully, with our suggestions, this won’t happen though - but it’s still a crucial measure!

Cats

Make them a special space

In advance, create a cosy environment that your cat can spend the night. Think Cat Litter, Cosy Bed, Cat Treats and maybe even a friendly Wooly Mouse! By preempting that your cat might be spooked by being out on Halloween night, you can ensure they are safe with everything they need in one room. It’s only one night and will keep them happy and safe away from the door continually being opened too!

Try a natural supplement

If you know that your cat suffers from concern over different movements and is a little more timid than others, try Scullcap & Valerian Tablets. A natural supplement that helps to reduce anxiety from animals getting animated over loud noises and unusual changes.

Dogs

Check their collar

Check their collars are up to date. Just like their microchip, this is the first point of identification if your dog gets out. It will also be the way that you or someone else will gain control of your pet if they get out so should be in good condition. We advise a Nervous Collar if you are concerned about your pet getting lost.

Use this night to practice training

The plus point of this evening is it gives you the opportunity to practice with your dog what you expect of them when the door is opened. Whether you ask them to sit and remain away from the door or use a lead to deter any lurching forward. Our favourite reward treats include Pooch and Mutt Calm and Relaxed Mini Bone Treats, Forthglade Dog treats for Calming and Pooch and Mutt Turkey and Hemp Meaty Calming Treats for this time of year.

Try natural remedies

If your dog suffers from being worried about people being near or in your home or struggles with people wearing unusual things a natural supplement could be just what you need. Scullcap & Valerian Tablets are also for dogs and we also recommend Proflax Natural Calm & Collected, both of these can simply be added to their dinner beforehand to help them remain calm.

We wish everyone a happy and healthy Halloween and hope our tips help every pet remain calm and safe!
